Electronic reading devices such as the iPad, Kindle and Nook are increasing in popularity. While Portable Document Format (PDF) files are great for print products, they are often difficult to read on mobile devices. In order to better present your materials on these devices, you should learn the techniques to create .epub and .mobi files. These two formats are compatible with nearly all commercially available e-readers.
This ebook will briefly explain the process and provide current step-by-step instructions to create a finished product. The process described in this document is accurate as of May, 2011, on the Macintosh platform.
This is especially useful if you already have an Adobe suite installed on your computer, as InDesign is required to begin this process. This guide provides steps for a beginner with some web experience to generate files. It does not provide guidance on how to distribute through outlets such as iTunes or Amazon.
