0088_Bondi Sculpture by the Sea 2009
Re-uploaded as whole set accidentally deleted by flickr?! These are the best 116 shots from the 2009 Bondi Sculpture by the Sea…I had originally put all artists (won't have time to put these back now) on the shots and some had 1000s of views annoyingly :( Still here they are again in all their glory. Looking forward to 2011 sculptures in a few weeks! These are mostly Canon 5D2 with 16-35mm lens I recall.

ST. LOUIS -- The Texas Rangers will have to wait one more day to attempt to win their first World Series.
With heavy rain expected throughout the day in the St. Louis area, Major League Baseball announced that Wednesday night's Game 6 will be postponed to Thursday night at Busch Stadium.
With the Rangers looking to close out the Cardinals in six games, the postponement is significant because it gives each manager more pitching options for a potential Game 7 Friday night.
Cards manager Tony La Russa could opt to pitch ace Chris Carpenter on three days' rest, rather than stick with scheduled starter Kyle Lohse, who has a 7.82 ERA in three postseason starts.
Carpenter allowed two runs over seven innings in Game 5 -- though Texas went on to a 4-2 win -- and pitched six solid innings to pick up the win in Game 1.
Righty Jake Westbrook could also be a possibility to start Game 7, though he has not started a playoff game this year. La Russa has not said who his potential Game 7 starter would be.
Though Rangers manager Ron Washington has said he will stick with Game 3 starter Matt Harrison in Game 7 regardless of when the game is played, the postponement would give him the option of starting lefty Derek Holland on full rest.
Holland dazzled in Game 4 Sunday night, striking out seven and coming within two outs of a shutout in a 4-0 Rangers victory. Harrison was pulled in the fourth inning of a 16-7 Cardinals victory in Game 3.
Left-hander Jaime Garcia will start for the Cardinals in Game 6, while righty Colby Lewis will take the ball for the Rangers. Both were stellar in Game 2, as Garcia hurled seven scoreless innings and Lewis allowed just one run over six-plus innings of work.

Eastern Gray Squirrel

These guys are quite common for most of you but we don't have them in my area. This guy decided to follow me for a while on my walk one morning in FL. I guess he thought I had food which I didn't but then wished I did have a little something for him.

Waling on Aberdeen's nother seaside while the sun is going down. The shadows are long on the sand, it seems they want to escape from the bodies.
Sunrays are running down, cleaving all the shining gold grains of sand. The wind cuts the face like blades made of ice, the sea is growling, hungry, warning the brave sailor.

SHANGHAI—A subway crash in Shanghai that injured nearly 300 people resulted from negligence, inadequate training and faulty installation of backup power systems, the city's safety agency said. It announced penalties for a dozen subway employees.
Three train operators were removed from their posts, the Shanghai Administration of Work Safety said Thursday, while nine other subway system managers and workers were also punished for the crash of one subway train into another on Sept. 27.
The subway crash was a shock for Shanghai, a city of 23 million that had its entire transport infrastructure—roads, airports, ports, tunnels and subways—upgraded ahead of the city's 2010 World Expo. It occurred just two months after two bullet trains in east China's Zhejiang Province crashed, killing 40 people and injuring 177. The July 23 accident exposed festering resentments over the huge costs of the country's massive buildup of its rail system, especially its high-speed lines.
The Shanghai accident highlights some of the risks of hasty construction and deployment of showcase infrastructure, especially given China's poor track record for industrial safety.
The affected line—Line 10—operated by Shanghai Shentong Metro Group, is one of Shanghai's newest and most modern.
A loss of power on the line during repairs caused the signal system to fail and dispatchers then issued faulty orders that caused one train to rear end another as it sat still on the tracks in an area near the city's scenic Yuyuan Garden.
The report said Shanghai Shentong's first mistake was in authorizing repair work at a station without having a contingency plan in case it disrupted the power supply. The repair work caused a loss of power to the station that led the signaling system to fail.
"Shanghai Shentong should be people-oriented, put safety first, and draw deep lessons from the accident," the report said. It said the metro operator would face maximum financial penalties for its lapses, without giving any details.
"Bitter experience, deep reflection," Shanghai Shentong said in a notice on its blog that outlined a slew of measures, especially focused on training, management and use of the subway safety systems.
Several of Shanghai Shentong's managers were held responsible for negligent management or failure to provide adequate training to subway operators.
The report also cited problems with installation of backup power from uninterrupted power supply—UPS—equipment, which should have kicked in to prevent any lengthy power outages.
With the power out, subway operators then chose to direct trains on Line 10 via phone instead of electronic signals and ordered a train to stop in a tunnel between two stations.
About half an hour later, another train started out from one of the stations and headed toward the halted train at a speed of up to 54 kilometers per hour (34 mph), until the driver saw the stationary train and immediately tried to brake. It crashed into the stationary train at a speed of 35 kph (22 mph).
Although the train was crowded at the mid-afternoon time of the crash, the relatively slow speed helped to reduce injuries, most of which were light and not life-threatening, according to city officials.
High-tech automatic train protection systems are designed to improve safety while allowing more trains to travel within shorter intervals. Normally such systems prevent crashes by controlling train speeds and signaling the presence of any other trains on the line.
The supplier of the signaling system for the line—a joint venture between a local company and France's Alstom SA—denied earlier claims by the subway operator that its equipment malfunctioned, saying the crash had nothing to do with its system.
The three employees who were removed from their posts were Zhu Limin, vice director of Shentong Group's dispatching department, and Tang Zhihua and Kuo Kang, respectively the chief and vice manager of Line 10's dispatching center.

For those who love small details! This micro art object made by Jrme Gulon is situated on the wall of "Le Merle Moqueur".
This one with the portrait of Jean-Baptiste Clment, a chansonnier, montmartrois and French communard. Born in 1836 in Boulogne-Billancourt and died in 1903 in Paris. He is burried on Pre Lachaise. His most famous song is "Le Temps des Cerises" (1866). This mosac is situated on the wall next to "La Merle Moqueur" because these are words of this song (click on Youtube link below for this song and the mots).

Piece by Beastman in Nithsdale Lane off Elizabeth Street, where he, Yok and Numskull made the first of two murals for Streetware 2011.
It took them 2 days to make; they have planned for 5 days all up for the two murals. Unlike some of their murals, this one has council development approval, so hopefully should stay up for a while. They lost one of their murals in Leichhardt recently due to a single complaint to council and the owner of the building not having a DA for it, so it was buffed.
Although Streetware has started, this way people on the walking tour can at least see it getting made. They were naturally camera shy at first, but during its production seemed to get used to people coming by for photos, even enjoying it. Numskull said it was kinda fun. At first Beastman was covering up in a hoodie and sunnies, but none of them bothered by the next day.
Streetware, in its 2nd year, is a City of Sydney initiative as part of the Art & About festival.

Richard de Crespigny
Richard is #16 in my 100 Strangers project I've long had a love affair with airplanes, and I was a doing a photoshoot at an historic plane museum ( ... a 50s Nose Art/Pin Up themed shoot) when I had the distinct pleasure of being introduced to a rather famous Qantas captain, Richard de Crespigny
I naturally introduced myself, and luckily enough had my camera, plus the odd light or two readily at hand and Richard was kind enough to let me fire off a few shots
To do justice to the man, I'll simply paste an extract from a newspaper detailing Richard's capabilities as a pilot
He is widely feted as being Qantas' best pilot - one of the most experienced in the skies - and is a seasoned captain on the A380.
Now he can add hero to his list of achievements.
And for 465 passengers and crew, he is also a lifesaver, having guided a badly-damaged aircraft to the safety of Singapore Airport and averting what could have been a catastrophe.
Passengers on QF32 would never have guessed it from his calm, reassuring tone over the intercom, but Captain de Crespigny had a battle on his hands just minutes after taking off bound for Sydney on Thursday (November 06, 2010)
An engine had just exploded in flames under the port wing of his A380, severing vital links to another engine, leaving it running at full power, and damaging the hydraulic systems.
A fuel tank pierced by debris was leaking, and he would have to rely on gravity to lower the nose wheel down, while landing at high speed.
But Captain de Crespigny - and his cockpit crew, David Evans, Harry Wubben, Matt Hicks and Mark Johnson - made it look easy.
At his home in Sydney, a phone call on Thursday from a Qantas official was the first his wife Coral knew of the potential mid-air disaster.
"That's Rich ... just so incredibly competent. Those passengers were very lucky he was up the front," Mrs de Crespigny said.
After hanging up from the Qantas staffer who alerted her to the drama on QF32, Mrs de Crespigny sent her husband a quick text message.
"I sent a message saying 'Wow, that was lucky', and he wrote back 'Yes and that 'he was very busy'," she said.
The father of two - Alexander, 21, and Sophie, 20 - first began flying 35 years ago with the RAAF, before joining Qantas in 1986. Captain de Crespigny, was one of the first two Qantas pilots to fly the A380 when they came into service two years ago.
"He absolutely adores his job and he is so good at it ... our friends often say 'If you're going to fly and anything happens, you'd want it to be on Rich's flight'," Mrs de Crespigny said.
Passengers on board the flight now think exactly the same thing and yesterday spoke of the captain's warm and calm approach when disaster struck.
Just six minutes into Thursday's flight when the engine blew, Captain de Crespigny calmly addressed the passengers over the intercom: "I do apologise. I'm sure you are aware we have a technical issue with our No. 2 engine ... I'm sure you are aware we are not proceeding to Sydney at this stage ... The aircraft is flying safely at this stage".
After he guided QF32 to a safe landing at Singapore's Changi airport, Captain de Crespigny addressed passengers personally and spent 20 minutes answering their questions in the terminal.
He even gave some his personal mobile number and told them to call him if they had any problems or issues.
"He took questions for about 20 minutes. He was fantastic. He was very passionate about his flying, passionate about Qantas and about the cabin crew and passengers," Sydney lawyer Mick Hunter said as he checked in for his flight home.
"He said grab a pen and gave us his mobile number. He said Qantas is not a no-frills airline, they look after passengers, so call me if I have any issues at all."
To say that I was a little star struck to have shaken the hand of such a man is not that far from the truth, but he's not all that he cracks up to be ... he shoots Nikon :-p
Thanks Richard, you made my day !
