Parc Naturel (HDR)
Le Parc Natural dels Aiguamolls de l'Empord (cr par la Loi 21/1983 du 28 octobre, sur la Protection des Aiguamolls de l'Empord) a t dclar zone protge aprs une longue et intense campagne de dfense qui avait dbut en 1976 pour tenter d'viter l'urbanisation de la zone.
Trois zones principales constituent le Parc proprement dit :
La Rserve des "Estanys":
Faite de grandes tendues de roselires, de massettes et de champs inondables.
La Rserve de "Les Llaunes": Avec des lagunes littorales, prs saumtres et des dunes.
La Rserve de " L'Illa de Caramany":
Situe au milieu du cours du Fluvi, lieu de nidification de nombreux oiseaux.
La flore de cet espace protg est principalement concentre dans des parties demi inondables ou inondes et, en ce sens, il convient de remarquer la prsence de plantes typiques de ces milieux, comme c'est le cas des salicornes (Arthrocnemum, des sols salins), du roseau des sables (Ammophila arenaria) qui poussent sur les sables du bord de mer, et de l'iris jaune (Iris pseudacorus).
En dernier lieu, il ne faut pas oublier la prsence fournie de la faune et il faut tout particulirement citer la loutre eurasienne (Lutra lutra) et la cigogne blanche (Ciconia ciconia), espces qui furent rintroduites avec succs il y a dj quelques annes, de l'pinoche trois pines (Gasteosterus aculeatus) et de l'aphanius d'Espagne (Aphaniius iberus), deux poissons particulirement caractristiques de ces eaux et espces endmiques de la zone.

Three Giants to watch tonight vs. Patriots
This is going to be a game for the bottom half of the Giants roster, with jobs on the line in the final preseason game. Here are three players with much to gain:
RB ANDRE BROWN
Figures to get plenty of work tonight. If he doesn’t, that’s a very bad sign. The No. 4 running back spot is open and it’s a battle between Brown and rookie Da’Rel Scott.
LB SPENCER PAYSINGER
Has shown flashes that he belongs on the roster even though he wasn’t drafted out of Oregon. A few more flashes from this rookie could land him a spot.
P MATT DODGE
That was a fine scoop of a skipping snap the other night by Dodge, something he might not have been able to maneuver as a rookie. Can he continue to keep the heat on Steve Weatherford?

Jeter reflects on latest Yankees record, doubtful for Monday
BALTIMORE -- There was doubt whether Derek Jeter would play his 2,403rd game for the Yankees on Monday -- not that the captain is particularly counting.
Jeter played down the significance of his latest franchise milestone as he passed Mickey Mantle's games record with his 2,402nd outing for the Bronx Bombers in the first game of Sunday's day-night doubleheader in Baltimore.
"I don't even think you're aware of anything like that," Jeter said, according to MLB.com. "When you first come up, you're just trying to keep your job and stay here as long as you can."

Compared with the excitement at his 3,000th hit, Jeter suggested the appearance record was not something of great significance.
"I don't think people get called up and look at, 'Let me see who has the games-played record for the organization.' So this one was something I never looked at. No one ever talked about it," he said.
While reluctant to pop open the champagne, the achievement at least allowed the shortstop to reflect on his longevity.
"I take pride in coming and doing my job. I think that's probably the best way to put it," Jeter said. "My job is obviously to come and play games, try to stay on the field and try to stay healthy. I've done it for a long time, I guess."
Ironically, a bruised right knee may keep him from the Yankees lineup Monday after he missed Sunday's 8-3 night victory over the Orioles, having sustained the injury in the earlier game.
Jeter was a late scratch, while Alex Rodriguez also was sidelined with a sprained left thumb.
"We need to get them healthy," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said, according to MLB.com. "It is somewhat of a concern, but hopefully neither one of them will be out very long. I don't know if we'll have either one of them [Monday]."

The West MacDonnell Ranges part briefly at Glen Helen Gorge, to make way for the Finke River. The ranges are of pacoota sandstone and form steep, broken ridges and it is here that the permanent Finke River waterhole is an important refuge in the hot summer months
