Girls basketball holiday roundup: Roberts lifts Lincoln over Truman

Simone Roberts made up for lost time.

After missing the first round due to the inclement weather conditions, the sophomore point guard had 16 points to lead Lincoln to a 32-30 win over Truman in the Baseline Holiday Madness Tournament semifinals Wednesday at IS 129 in The Bronx.

Erica Juarbe added seven points for the Railsplitters (4-2), who meet Medgar Evers in the championship game Thursday at 4 p.m. They now boast victories over PSAL ‘AA’ rivals Grand Street Campus, Midwood and Truman (6-6).

Medgar Evers 64, DeWitt Clinton 39: Keyanna Jean Louis had 20 points, Kailyn Richburg had 17 points and Ashley Castle had 13 points, 20 rebounds and 15 assists for Medgar Evers (7-2) in the Baseline Holiday Madness Tournament semifinals. The Cougars, who led 29-2 after one and were missing sophomore forward Shakila Small (personal reasons), will meet Lincoln in the final Thursday at 4 p.m.

BERGTRAUM HOLIDAY CLASSIC

Sachem East (L.I.) 48, McKee/Staten Island Tech 47: Kaitlyn Astel had 17 points, Olivia Iacono had 12 points and Alicea Ulmer added eight for MSIT (9-3), which coughed up a 10-point fourth-quarter lead. With her seventh point of the game, Astel, a junior, earned 1,000 for her career. Meagen Doherty had 16 points, Kathleen Everson had 15 points and Emily Carmel had 12 for Sachem East (3-1), last year’s New York State Federation Class AA finalist.

BRAGGIN RIGHTS CLASSIC

Bolingbrook (Ill.) 66, Nazareth 59: Bianca Cuevas led the Lady Kingsmen with 19 points in a battle of nationally ranked teams in Cincinnati, Ohio. Nazareth (7-2) was able to cut a 48-36 deficit after the three quarters to just four in the final minutes. Bolingbrook is 9-2.

ST. PIUS X CHRISTMAS CLASSIC

Notre Dame Academy 47, Xavier University Prep (La.) 23: Ashley Iannacone scored 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the third place game in Atlanta, Ga. The senior forward was named to the all-tournament team for the second straight year. Sam LaForgia had seven points and Nicole Necriosio added six for the Gators (4-3).

St. John Villa 54, Mercy 43: Brittany Sullivan dropped in 17 points and Nicole Francomano had 12 points and five steals for Villa (3-5) in the fifth place game. Danielle Iacampo scored 11 points, grabbed five rebounds and added three steals.

BISHOP FORD CHRISTMAS CLASSIC

Moore Catholic 66, St. Mary's (L.I.) 33: Taylor Baggs scored 14 points and hauled in 10 rebounds and Nicole Arnone had 14 points, six boards and seven steals for Moore Catholic. Jessica Coscia added 12 points as the Mavericks outscored St. Mary's 37-12 in the second half. Maddie Jankowski lead St. Mary's with 18 points, includling four 3-pointers.

DIAMOND STATE CLASSIC

Archbishop Molloy 60, Western (Md.) 40: Kamille Ejerta tallied 15 points and Alexa (Weasel) Detrich had 11 points for Molloy (4-2) in Delaware. Carolyn Gallagher had 10 points and 12 rebounds, Jessie Jamin scored 10 points and Amani Tatum added nine points and six assists. The Stanners play Ursuline at 11:15 p.m. Thursday.

HOLY NAME HOLIDAY CLASSIC

Bishop Maginn 64, St. Francis Prep 55: Meghan Erdman dropped in 15 of her 17 points in the first half for St. Francis Prep (3-5) in Albany. Caitlin O'Doherty added 13 points and nine rebounds off the bench. Jenna Halaby, who fouled out with 4:00 left in the game, scored 11 points and Katherine Hickman added eight.

AMSTERDAM UPSTATE VS. DOWNSTATE CLASSIC

Amsterdam 50, West 50th Street Campus 48: Abbie Etuk had 17 points and Caleitha Berry had 16 points for West 50th Street (7-4), which tied the game on a Josephine Diaz 3-pointer with eight seconds left before Amsterdam won at the buzzer. It was the second straight solid performance upstate for the Seahawks, who are still missing injured star Jade Venson.

“We are going to be better for it come March,” Seahawks coach Kinsley Kwateng said.

NON-LEAGUE

Christ the King 51, East Longmeadow (Mass) 38: Bria Smith scored 16 points for Christ the King (5-3) at home. Lauren Nuss and Sierra Calhoun each added eight points.
