The Lorraine Motel and Hotel catered to a mainly Black clientele during the days of segregation. In April, 1968, Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. was staying at the Lorraine. On April 4, he was assassinated on the balcony in front of Room 306. Today, the National Civil Rights Museum is located at the Lorraine Motel. The motel facade remains however, exactly as it was that day in 1968.
