Deft characterization, a bent-but-not-fractured fairy-tale plot, and a superabundance of wild irreverence distinguish this title. Beverly Hills teen West Caroline Deschanel is hustled off to Possum Grape, Arkansas, to live with an aunt she's never met. West, however, doesn't come off as either spoiled or even shallow: she instantly falls for her six-year-old cousin and takes a stand in a tussle between Nice and Mean Girls at her new high school.
