In 2007, Sally Thelen left behind her apartment, her cat and her collection of cheap shoes to move to Asia. Since then she has taught English in Japan, house-sat in the jungles of Northern Thailand, volunteered on a rice farm in Malaysia, risked death and dismemberment in a UXO field in Laos and eaten through her fair share of dumplings in China. Not your typical world traveler, Thelen isn’t afraid to admit she’s scared -- really, really scared. She also isn’t afraid to admit that she misses her couch -- like, a lot.

This collection of articles was taken from Thelen’s popular travel blog, Unbrave Girl, which has been described on The Huffington Post as “funny, snarky, thoughtful.” Articles include tips on how to survive on a shoestring budget without having to give up the chocolate, how to make friends on the road while barely leaving your hotel room, and how to get by as a big-boned girl in a continent where you can’t buy the pants. In addition to her one-of-a-kind travel advice, Thelen also shares some life lessons she has learned on the road – like how travel can change you for the better (if not for the skinnier) and that you can go home again (because eventually you’re going to have to buy some pants).
