Foreigner: In The Shadow Of The Square - Frank Zahn

John Matthews finds adventure in China during the spring of 1989. In the midst of the poverty, squalor, and political oppression that plague the lives of the Chinese people, he becomes caught up in the military’s brutal assault on the student demonstrators in Tiananmen Square. When the military discovers he has helped a wounded leader of the demonstrators escape from Beijing, an extraordinary Chinese woman befriends him in his desperate attempt to evade capture and get out of the country. Although fiction, the story is based on the author's experiences in China during that infamous spring.
