A Marine returned to the United States from Vietnam in 1967 as a fledgling serial killer. Forty-two years later, the Grim Reaper, killer of couples each New Year’s Day, is challenged by his former commander and a novice investigator.
A phantom accompanied a Marine rifle company in Vietnam during the last six months of 1966. This Phantom attacked the Viet Cong and NVA enemy at night. The ambushes encouraged the VC to seek other softer targets. The Phantom marked his kills with a card, the Ace of Spades on front, on the reverse a hand drawn ghost.
However, evidence also pointed to the Phantom for the rape and strangulation deaths of young village girls.
The Company Commander is obsessed with the Phantom, his career was destroyed by his inability to identify and capture the killer.
In the 40 years since Vietnam, the serial rapist has killed more than sixty people.
The story weaves old enemies with new players in the present day to track, to expose, to stop the killer.
